Capital One and Hotels.com Partnership

I’ve been doing research on what credit card to get next.

I’ve heard rumors that a Marriott branded credit card will be launched on May 3, 2018 that will give 100k point bonus after a 3k spend. That’s a pretty good deal in my opinion and since I’m planning a big vacation at the end of the year, those points sure would come in handy! Since the new SPG and Marriott merger, those points will be even more valuable since I have the AMEX SPG card. But I am almost 100% certain that I won’t get the Marriot card if I apply for it.

Why, you ask? Well the Marriott card rumored be launched is a Chase branded card.  I’m currently over the Chase 5/24 rule. The gist of the rule is this: If you have opened 5 or more new credit cards in the past 24 months (from any issuing bank), you will not be approved for a new credit card from Chase. That really bums me out. I don’t really want to wait 12 to 24 months.

Well, I recently found out that there’s a new partnership between Hotels.com and the Capital Venture rewards card Capital One, which is one of my favorite cards. You can get 10 miles per dollar spent at Hotels.com with your card, plus if you belong to the Hotels.com rewards program you will earn 10% of the cost of your stay toward a future free night through the Hotels.com program. That’s an earning of 20% on every dollar you spend! Read more here Hotels.com.

The benefits of doing this versus using the Marriott and SPG cards, is that you are not locked into those hotel chains. You can choose any hotel on Hotels.com and use your Capital One Venture Card, and also the Capital One Venture One Rewards Credit Card, to book any hotel that fits your needs.

I’ve used the miles eraser feature on my Capital One Venture Card in the past when I booked my Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy flights from JFK to LHR. Also, you are not subject to blackout dates with your Capital One Venture Card, yet another reason why I love this card.

While this partnership between Hotels.com and Capital One might not be for you if you don’t have or can’t get the Capital One Card it is definitely worth looking into if you do.

To me, it’s a no brainer. Why wouldn’t you try and maximize your rewards for all programs and credit cards?
